The ten-strong grime collective, Roll Deep, recently confessed that critics had written them off twelve months ago.
Roll Deep admitted that they were unsure if they could make it in the music industry.
Crew member Target told the Daily Star:
“Loads of people wrote us off but it’s funny how things can change in the space of 12 months. This time last year we were like: ‘Are people ever gonna take this to the level that we want?’ We had the songs and then all of a sudden things got mental, this year has been unbelievable. When we first came from the grime scene it was almost taboo to do anything commercial, everybody would turn their noses up at you. Now all the artists who have come out of that scene like Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Stryder are experimenting and reaping the rewards.”
Their number one hit ‘Good Times’ was probably a shocker for critics. Lets hope they are not a one hit wonder though! Only time will tell.
