FAILURE: Christina Aguilera Discusses ‘Bionic’ Failure

Christina Aguilera’s album Bionic, was one of the biggest commercial failures of the year. Despite its lack of success, Christina remained quiet about its disappointing sales figures.

At the press conference for her new movie, Burlesque, Christina spoke about the LP’s inability to break any records except for becoming the lowest selling No.1 album in the history of the UK. She broke her silence by saying:

“The creative process that involved Bionic is over, I did what I wanted to do and I’m satisfied with it. If the album sells or if the songs are a hit, I don’t care and I don’t need to know it, I did my part and I gave 100% while I was doing it, and I’m proud of this work.”

Discussing the film, she added: “Burlesque was a different process, I’ll support this project util the end, but not to find out if it was a box office hit or not – that is not what motivates me. The creative process is my thing, I’m an artist and once something is over, I look forward for what is next, and I don’t look back.{Source}

Though it is clear that Christina is not focusing on her sales figures, it’s also clear that her album sales will be key to the music executives decision making processes. After all, the entertainment industry is a business and Christina is their product. As a result, RCA/Sony Music have taken a note of her attitude and situation and will reduce her creative input in her future work.

Unfortunately, it is sad to see that the powerhouse Aguilera, has had her sales decline steadily since the release of her debut album. Although many feel that sales figures have decreased in the music industry due to the advancement of technology, others feel that artists like Beyonce and Britney Spears are still able to achieve platinum albums despite the decline.

I don’t really know what to say about this whole situation. I understand that its important to make the music you love and you feel you can relate to. However, it is just as important to make music that your fans will love and relate to. I think her sales figures reflect that. Wish you the best Christina!

  1. i think its soo sad that a talented artist like christina aguilera cant hold up too other artist that have better commercial success like talentless artist kesha and rhianna. I am a big chrisina fan but her last album went into a direction that even i cant 100% support. I bought the album and its not as bad as critics have made it out too be. But it was alot of over sexed and has a lack of good lyrical content. But then look at all the shit on the radio and on the billbiard charts now. I guess too last in todays world u have too take that route. i hope her next album will put her back on top. Burlesque will hopefully improve her carrer..i heard a new single called spot light that she made for the movie so hopefully it will be a radio single. good luck cristina
